The ancient city hall of Xi’an, or the fortifications of Xi’an, is situated in the center of Xi’an. Built from 1374 to 1378, it represents represent one of the oldest and best preserved Chinese city walls.
The wall was built by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang under the basis of the Tang City Wall with the purpose of defense. The structure of the City wall consists of the city moat, the suspension bridge, archery towers, main towers, turret towers, battlements, and so on. The process of repairmen started from 1980s has given the city tower a new look. The city wall was approved national key cultural relics protection units in 1961 and national 4A level scenic spot in 2001.
