Dali Ancient City could date back to Tianbao age in Tang Dynasty. The present ancient city was built in Hongwu 15th in Ming Dynasty (1382). Dali Ancient City has a circumference of 12 li, the city wall is about 2.5 zhang high, and 2 zhang thick. At the beginning of liberation, all city walls were destroyed. In 1982, the south city gate was rebuilt, and the characters on the city gate, "Dali" was made up of characters of Guo Moruo. Enter the south city gate, and then you will see the Fuxing Road. Lots of specilties of Yunnan like marbles, tie-dyed clothes, jewels and jades are sold here. If you go further into the street, you can still feel the ancient Dali. In Dali Ancient City, there is a "foreigners' street", Huguo Road, which goes east to west. The street is crowded with Chinese and foreign restaurants, shops, and craft stores. The ads are written in English, to attract foreign tourists.
