Original tomb of Wangzhaojun is located at Dahi Riverside 9km far from Hohhot. Current tomb was a cenotaph which was rebuilt in 70s. The cemetery is 13,000 m², with a 33 meter mound containing Zhaojun's coffin, making it a landmark of the region.
Wangzhaojun was one of the “four beauties” of ancient China. she was born in Han dynasty in Baoqing Village in Hubei Province. After being selected by the court she was sent to marry the Attila (Xiongnu chanyu) by Emperor Yuan in order to establish relation with them. Wangzhaojun was known as a beauty as well a versatile woman. She was adept in pipa and a master of all the Four Arts of the Chinese Scholar. In Chinese history there left thousands of widely known literature, drama and legend based on her story.
