Liugong Island is a small island located on the northeastern edge of Shandong Peninsula, at the mouth of Weihai Bay. It is known as the "Shangri-La on the sea” and “unshakable warship”. There is a beautiful story about the name of the island. It is said that several hundred years ago, a merchant ship from southern China encountered a shipwreck. After being drifted to an island, the passengers were saved by an old couple having the last name “Liu”. In order to express their deep thanks to the old couple, those people later built a temple named after “Liu”. With time going on, the temple gained its reputation, and the island was gradually called “Liugong Island”. Such island is famous for a long history and rich cultural heritage. The most popular sites are cultural relics during the Warring States Period, which can be traced back to several thousand years ago,and those left by Beiyang Navy as well as the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895. What’s more, surrounded by Yellow Sea by three sides and covered by a complex landform, Liugong Island has a pleasant climate, especially in spring and summer. In addition, liugong Island is also famous for its seafood. Such specility emphasizes on pattern, heat control and taste.
