Zhalong National Nature Reserve
The Zhalong National Nature Reserve, a four-A class tourist destination, is located 26 km southeast of Qiqihar. Established in 1979, the 210,000-hectare reserve was included on the List of Wetlands of International Importance in 1992. Among wetlands at the same latitude, it has the most primitive landscape and the most species. Dotted with islets and lakes, the marsh reserve is rich in fish and shrimps and is thus a perfect place to birds. Home to more than 150 birds, the reserve is famed for cranes. There are 15 species of cranes worldwide and 6 of them can be found at the reserve. Visitors can cruise along rivers and lakes, watch how domesticated cranes are trained for the wild, see a large variety of birds as well as crane specimens.
