Originally called Miji Mountain, Thousand-Buddha Mountain gained its name from the Sui Dynasty, since several buddha statutes were caved into the mountain. In 1959, a park was built around the mountain. Thousand-Buddha Mountain is renowned for its beautiful scenery and places of interests. Half way up the mountain, there is a a temple called Xingguo Temple, which was built in the Tang Dynasty. A pavilion, east of the temple, has a fantastic viewpoint of the scenic scenery of the whole Jinan City. Thus its name “Yilan Pavilion”. On the cliff, from the west to the east, Longquan Cave, Jile Cave, Qianlou Cave and Lvzu Cave are famous sites to explore. Such unique sights as buddhas, temples and caves provide incomparable resource for those photography enthusiasts. During the latest years, Thousand-Buddha Mountain Park has developed fast, and become one of the seven scenic areas in Shandong Province. Combined with Peachblossom Garden, Pearblossom Garden, Tour Cableway, a golf course, Eighteen Arhats Statue and the Sleeping Buddha, Thousand-Buddha Mountain Park is now a tourism resort characteristic of Shun Culture (Shun is the forefather of the Chinese descendants) and Buddhism Culture. The custom of temple fairs have been lasted since the Yuan Dynasty. The ones that are held on March 3rd and September 9th according to the Lunar Calendar are of great significance. During the period, many local specialities will be in season, such as thornapples, persimmons and peanuts.
