Pingyao Weather
Pingyao, an ancient county in Shanxi province, has a half-dry warm temperate continental monsoon climate. It’s dry and temperate there with a large temperature disparity between winter and summer.
In spring, the day and night temperature difference is large with little rain and big wind blowing. While in summer, it’s hot and rainy. Autumn is cool and sunny and cold winter carries snow.
The whole year is suitable for tourists to go to Pingyao, but the best time will be September and days around Spring Festival.
In September, days are cool and pleasant with abundant sunshine. And there is a photo festival in the end of September. Streets will get busy and alive. People who enjoy photography are recommended.
It’s quite cold in winter in Pingyao, but tourists are still recommended to go there around Spring Festival not only because of beautiful snow landscape but also because a lot of activities are held at that time to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year.
It’s fun to feel traditional Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival in Pingyao. On Ming-Qing Street and some other old blocks, activities such as lantern enjoying, fire agency performance and some other folk-custom performances are held. These performances attract a lot of tourists every year.
