Make the stops across the river

Although we were concerned about navigating the Pudong streets, The Wall, situated practically beneath the Pearl Tower, was easy to find.

From the street, the club appeared to be pretty standard Shanghai nighttime fare: Ferrari parked out front and a crowd of well-dressed Westerners and hipster locals loitering about. From inside, it soon becomes clear that this club might be set to join the list of mainstays on the Shanghai nightlife circuit-if not impeded by its location on the wrong side of the river. The house DJ's techno beats seem to ricochet off the low walls, intensifying the rhythm of the bass.

Cozy nooks in plush white, dangling egg-shaped chairs make for good places to rest after dancing. There are chic, Chinese-themed tables in the back if you're looking for somewhere to steal a private moment. Drinks are surprisingly strong (most of us having gotten used to the weak slosh served at most bars); we indulged in a Lychee Martini (RMB60) and a Vodka Mai Tai (RMB60) which we chose from an imaginative menu of choices. All in all, the makings of a new go-to locale.
