Stories about Silk Road
As the well known traveler, Marco Polo took his adventure heading for China just along the Silk Road in China’s Yuan dynasty (1271-1368). The book Travels of Marco Polo has a vivid description about the wealth of China, the exotic custom in China and the beautiful sceneries along the Silk Road. This book had a great influence on the European’s understanding on China and arouses the desire of many western explorers to visit China. There was also a great Chinese hero who left his footsteps on the Silk Road. Xuanzang, a Chinese monk in Tang dynasty (618-907), completed an epic pilgrim to the west for the pursuit of orthodox Buddhism in India. Xuanzang’s sixteen-year-long journey also promoted the cultural and diplomatic exchange between China and the countries along the Silk Road. His journey had been adapted into a fiction Pilgrimage to the West, which enjoys a great popularity and reputation both in China and the world.
