Just 70 km south of Hangzhou, atop a spider web of canals, sits the little city of Shaoxing, a quiet, relaxed, historical, waterside town, the hometown of famous Shaoxing Rice Wine and the Chinese Yue Opera. It is only about 200 kilometers from Shanghai. Famous in the world as “State of Culture”, with former residence of various celebrities, ancient relics and cultural relics protection unit spreading all over the place, Shaoxing is honored as “Fenceless Museum”. The Tanghui in Night of Shen Garden every evening-“Affection of Shen Garden”-has received lots of praises. Shaoxing Ancient City has typical scenery of Jiangnan Water city. Surrounded by water on four sides and with inland rivers crossing each other, it is honored as “Ancient City Floating on Water”. Boat with black awning is the characteristic vehicle on water, just like Gondola in Venice. One of the best ways to experience this water town is aboard a Wupeng boat. Ride on one of these traditional Chinese boats and enjoy the exquisite scenery of the town’s ancient bridges, lovely riverside houses and the bustling local bazaars set right by the water. You can attend varied festival activities includes China Water city Festival, Lanting International Calligraphy Festival, Rice Wine Festival and International Textile Expo, etc.. Late spring, early summer and fall are the ideal time for a Shaoxing visit.
