Turpan Amusement
Xinjiang is renowned for its singing and dancing. As one of the two major Uighur cultural centers in Xinjiang, there are abundant folk songs and dances which is filled with local characteristics here. Among them Gaochang music and dance and Nazi Qom dance are of particular excellence.
The Gaochang Music and Dance
Western dance had great impact on the Central Plains. According to records, three of the nine music of Sui Dynasty and five of the ten music of Tang Dynasty are all derived from the Western Regions. The Gaochang Music and Dance is just one of ten music of the Tang Dynasty which is now very famous in Turpan. It is attracting more and more appreciators by its unique art.
Nazi Qom dance
Qom Dance Nazi is a kind of folk dance which is only popular in the Turpan region. The dance imitates various living beings from the nature and the dance movements are mainly cross legs, shrug, and unique squat steps. Compared with other ethnic groups’ dance, this folk dance in Turpan is filled with more witty and joyful comedy.
The Tourism and Culture Square which is located in the Turpan urban center, is a main site for carrying out a variety of cultural and recreational activities. One of the most interesting performances is “Maixilaifu”. This is a form of entertainment which combines singing and dancing and the folk entertainment activities together. Generally it is held in holidays or at nightfall. Participants gather in the square, performing acrobatics and magic, dancing and singing. In addition, sand therapy is a unique entertainment fitness program in Turpan. The sand dunes of the basin are the best places for sand therapy and the best time is from June to August. Sand therapy can speed up the metabolism and it can play the role of sunlight therapy, magnetic therapy, and massage. This therapy is available in attractions such as Makha Bucha Palace and Kumtag Desert.
