Fenghuang Amusement
In the west part of Hunan Province, it is strongly advised to experience the life of Chinese ethnic groups. Girls of Miao nationality, wearing well-designed silver ornaments, perform traditional dances. Miao folks love singing. They start singing as soon as they could talk. Miao girls’ sweet voice, shining silver ornaments, and colorful folk costumes—what an amazing picture! During traditional festivals of Miao nationality, you can admire traditional celebrations, such as lion dance and dragon dance. Around eight o’clock in the evening you can watch large bonfire party and Fenghuang Miao and Tujia ethnic folk dance performances.
Tuojiang River is the mother river of Fenghuang Ancient Town. It flows along the city wall, nurturing generations of Fenghuang people. Imagine you sit on the rowboats and time-honoured Miao houses built on stilts pass by slowly. That would be an unforgettable experience.
In Fenghuang there are several bars of local characteristics. One of them is “watchman of the Ancient Town” (gu cheng shou wang zhe), in which there are many interesting articles and paintings left by other tourists. Here you can hire an expert on folklore of western Hunan to guide you.
