1. Tibetan New Year ( Losar)
Losar is the largest and most popular non-religious festival of the year. On New Year’s day in Lhasa, pilgrims throng to the Jokhang Temple and Potola Palace to make offerings by burning butter lamps while locals dress in their best and parade around Barkor Marker Street. Around town new colored prayer flags are hung above each home and small incense fires burn throughout the city.
2. Horse Racing Festival
Tibet hosts many local horse racing festivals. Jyekundo, Nakchu and Litany are the most popular. Herdsmen on horseback wearing colorful dress carry tents and local products to pastureland to prepare to watch the festival. Many exciting events like Tibetan games, track & field events, folk song & dances, bartering & trading, and the main attraction horse racing are held.
