In the Song Dynasty, Chinese fiction is demonstrated in stylishly ??by Hua Ben, who comes on stage to deliver a profound monologue. The use of monologues in Chinese fiction was especially beneficial for the viewers of the time, as many people could not read themselves. The portrayal of actors and plots were thus illuminating, vivid and easy to understand. This type of Chinese fiction formed the interim period of classical fiction.

This novel was written by Luo Guanzhong, and explores which military events that occured during 169 - 280 in the reign of Eastern Han Dynasty. The book explores three states ?in China, Wei, Shu and Wu, each ?of which occupied a territory until finally the State Wei unified all three. The figures - Zhu Geliang, Guan Yu and Cao Cao, are prominently displayed, and are also the most famous three. The character Zhu Geliang's wit has always been admired by readers, the character of Guan Yu was depicted as a loyal general and ?lastly, Cao Cao was displayed as a man of duplicity.

Originally published anonymously in the 1590s during the Ming Dynasty, and even though no direct evidence of its authorship survives, it has been ascribed to the scholar Wú Chéng'ēn since the 20th century. This novel tells a story of the pilgrimage of the honorable Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang to ancient India, together with his three disciples.

By experiencing the novel readers can experience the bravery and wit of Sun Wukong, the faithfulness of Xuanzang, the greed of Zhu Bajie and the kindness of Sha Cen. Some scholars propose that the book satirizes the Chinese government at the time. The Pilgrim to the West has a strong background in Chinese folk religion, Chinese mythology and value systems; the pantheon of Taoist immortals and Buddhist bodhisattvas is still reflective of Chinese folk religious beliefs today.

The authors, Cao Xueqin and Gao E told a sorrowful love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu, by composing a tale of how a wealthy and royal family collapses. The novel is a great realistic work among early Chinese novels, and superb achievement in both ideological and artistic terms. It is not only a great Chinese novel but also a gem of world literature, appreciated by many worldwide. Lu Xun, the great 20th century Chinese writer, has this comment on the novel: "The appearance of A Dream of Red Mansions shatters all traditional ideas and techniques of writing."
